Program Director

Location: Washington, D.C.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Responsible for overseeing one or more initiatives within Action for America. The Program Director will create and revise programs, hire and train staff, and ensure quality execution of AFA’s core initiatives.


  • Create and supervise programs.

  • Devise budgets and ensure the budget is adhered to throughout fiscal year.

  • Reach out to community for volunteers and support.

  • Coordinate program activities and strategy

  • Supervise, hire, and train staff.

  • Monitor the effectiveness and results of the program and plan adjustments.

  • Attend community events to represent Action for America and programs.

App Development Associate

Location: Remote

Compensation: Course Credit / Monthly stipend

We are looking for an iOS Developer who possesses a passion for pushing mobile technologies towards political action and a scrappy ability to creatively problem solve. A modest stipend is offered for non-coursework interns.


  • Design and build an application for the iOS platform.

  • Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability.

  • Work on bug fixing and improving application performance.

  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.


  • BS/MS degree or studying Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject

  • Experience in iOS development-Portfolio of 2-5 previously designed Apps

  • Have an understanding of publishing iOS apps in the app store

  • A deep familiarity with Objective-C and Cocoa Touch-Experience working with iOS frameworks such as Core Data, Core Animation, Core Graphics and Core Text-Experience with third-party libraries and APIs

  • Working knowledge of the general mobile landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies

  • Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle

  • All requirements are not necessary, but the most important quality will be a willingness to learn on the fly when necessary. Be scrappy!

We are currently hiring for three different internships based in Washington DC during Summer 2016. The internships may be conducted for course credit and some travel opportunities may arise. We are looking for individuals who can start immediately, and by June 1 at the latest. AFA is a fast growing organization and successful interns will have access to future employment with AFA or our close partners, including paid associate positions during the Fall 2016 semester. America 2026 Event Management Intern

Essential Function may include:

  • Work closely with the program coordinator to plan all elements of the America2026 convention

  • Help maintain relationships with hotel, catering, and event space contacts

  • Assist in booking travel to and from the convention for all delegates

  • Help finalize convention schedule and arrange schedules for AFA staff

  • Research potential keynote and breakout speakers

  • Develop written programs for the delegates and media

  • Arrange summer events--including happy hours and policy panels--in for DC based interns  

Fundraising and Outreach Intern

Essential Functions may include:

  • Identify potential donors and sponsors

  • Develop strategy for outreach to donors

  • Maintain relationships with our key partners

  • Assist in hosting events / meetings for potential donors and partners

  • Op-Ed writing

  • Daily tasks will include some administrative and operational support

Web Development Intern

Essential Functions may include:

  • Develop personal profile infrastructure on the backend of our NationBuilder hosted website

  • Assist in maintenance of website

  • Organize beta testing stage of our new app

  • Assist leadership team in technology operations

  • Streamline backend processing of new clients

  • Op-Ed writing

  • Daily tasks will include some administrative and operational support
